South Africa Announce Squad for T20 Series Against Pakistan

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially announced 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan, start on December 10, 2024.

The 3 T20 match series will start in Durban, with the remaining matches scheduled in Centurion and Johannesburg on December 13 and 14, respectively.

Heinrich Klaasen to Lead in T20 Team

Heinrich Klaasen will step in as captain for this series, filling the role in place of regular skipper Aiden Markram, who will not be available.

Several key players, including Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Tristan Stubbs, have been rested to focus on the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan.

Key Comebacks for Nortje and Shamsi

Fast bowler Anrich Nortje and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi make their much-awaited return to the squad. This series marks their first international appearance since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held earlier this year.

Additionally, all-rounder George Linde has been recalled following an outstanding domestic season, providing a valuable spin-bowling option for the team.

Coach’s Comments

South Africa white-ball head coach, Rob Walter, shared his thoughts on the squad selection:

“This squad features 15 capped players, and our goal is to utilize their experience to strengthen the team. In Aiden’s absence, Heinrich Klaasen will lead. He brings a wealth of experience and excellent game awareness, making him an ideal choice for this role.”

On the return of key players, Walter remarked:

“The inclusion of Anrich and Tabraiz adds significant strength to our bowling attack. Their expertise in both pace and spin will be critical against a strong Pakistan lineup.”

Discussing George Linde return, Walter added:

“George has earned his spot through consistent performances in domestic cricket. His ability as a spinning all-rounder gives us the balance we need for this series.”

  • Captain: Heinrich Klaasen

Important Notes:
